Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura
In this issue we take a look at the popular
east coast resort of Caleta de Fuste
known to the locals as Castillo because
of the 18th century fort that can be seen
down by the picturesque harbour.
The
name Caleta de Fuste literally translated
means the Cove of the Fuste and Fuste is
the term for an old wooden sailing ship
one of which used to be anchored in the
cove. Caleta is ideally situated just a 10
minute drive from the capital, Puerto
del Rosario, and 5 minutes from the airport.
Being about halfway along the coast
the fantastic beaches of the north and the
south of the island are easily accessible as
is the more rugged west coast. This holiday
resort with its many hotels and apartments
is reasonably new so it has all the
services and attractions that you would
expect.
To cater for the many tourists a man made
beach has been put around the cove and
a series of lagoons have been built which
have bars and restaurants on the small
islands. The harbour is a haven for small
craft and provides tourists and locals alike
with deep-sea fishing, boat trips, diving,
windsurfing, etc.
There are two 18 hole golf courses with
club houses, driving ranges and pro shops
and of course a 19th hole. Close by is The
Atlantico Centre which houses a cinema,
bowling alley, shops, restaurants and a
large Spar supermarket. A short distance
to the south is the salt museum Las Salinas.
To cope with the popularity of the area
there are many new housing developments
offering exceptional value together
with high quality. Recognising the
importance of the Caleta de Fuste property
market, Goldacre Estates have recently
appointed a dedicated property consultant
who will specialise in this area. Rachel
Pettinger will be pleased to assist clients
wishing to sell or purchase property, and
can be contacted on info@goldacre-estates.com .
Caleta de Fuste is a charming holiday resort
which meets the needs of the old and
young, the active and the not so active or
the undecided. |
